Adopt a Local Monument

Laois Local Studies > News > Adopt a Local Monument

Our history has bestowed on us a wealth of monuments that need care and attention to ensure that they survive for future generations to enjoy. Through the Adopt a Monument Programme the Heritage Council provide expertise, mentoring and support to encourage communities to ‘adopt’ a monument in their area in order to ensure ongoing maintenance and greater protection through increased civic value.

In 2017 Portlaoise Tidy Towns were successful applicants and undertook the conservation and reinstatement of historic ironwork around the Jacob’s Family grave plot in Old St Peter’s Graveyard, Portlaoise, as part of a wider graveyard conservation project funded by Laois County Council.

The closing date for this year’s completed applications is 31st March 2025. For more information and application forms see the Heritage Council’s Adopt a Monument.
