‘Opening a Window on the Past’ virtual launch and live reading by author Regina Dunne
As part of the Laois Decade of Centenaries Programme 2019/2020 Regina Dunne, Laois Historian-in-Residence, focused on the role of the Laois women during this era.
This publication tells the stories of Lucy Franks and Helen Roe. Both were important in the history of the island of Ireland, yet many outside their specialised areas have heard little of their pioneering work. The book explores their lives and gives both women recognition for their enthusiasm for education, preservation of culture and history, and their role in social change.
The publication is completed with the support of Laois County Library Services, the Decade of Centenaries Programme, and supported by Creative Ireland Laois as part of the Creative Ireland Programme (2017-2022) in partnership with Laois County Council. The book will be available at Laois Libraries and local bookstores. Regina will host a live-streamed reading of the publication from the Old Fort Quarter in Portlaoise. The stream will be accessible on social media platforms and will be available to view at a later date on the Laois Historian Blog.
