Laois Local Studies has digitised the Ivo de Vesci Photographic Collection in collaboration with Tom de Vesci and DPI. The images were captured by Ivo, 5th Viscount de Vesci (1881-1957), between about 1900 and 1957.
Ivo de Vesci was a prolific photographer and visually recorded all aspects of his life, including family, society, foreign travel and estate management. The collection, which spans over five decades, captures a period in which the local, social, political and economic landscape of Ireland was changing rapidly. It is a visual record of local and national significance.
The digital collection, containing approximately 4,000 images, was added to the Laois Local Studies Digital Archive with the kind permission of Tom de Vesci, owner of original records and copyright. A selection of the digital images was exhibited in Abbeyleix Library as a Heritage Week 2022 event and the images exhibited can now be viewed on our website here.
This project is supported by the Heritage Council under the Heritage Stewardship Fund 2022 and Laois County Council.
