Laois Local Studies is delighted to work with local schools and colleges to introduce students to the Laois Collection and to provide guidance and support with research.
Primary school teachers and students are encouraged to contact Local Studies to request local history information for school projects.
Second level teachers are welcome to arrange class or group visits to Local Studies, to introduce their students to a research facility and to familiarise them with the wide variety of Local Studies resources available. With history projects being part of the curriculum at junior and senior cycle, history teachers are encouraged to make contact with Local Studies for guidance on suitable research topics that are sufficiently supported by local resources.
Transition Year teachers and students often have the flexibility to engage in research projects that are not curriculum driven. Local Studies staff can provide training in use of Local Studies resources, such as our newspaper archive, to teach research skills to Transition Year students.
Laois Local Studies staff will visit schools to provide talks or workshops on genealogy, archives, research projects and resources available in Laois Local Studies, Laois Library branches and online.
Students are welcome to contact Local Studies directly for guidance and advice on their research. Queries can be submitted by telephone, email or in person, by appointment.
